The Bungle Bungles

The Bungle Bungle massif is located in the Purnululu National Park and was created at the same time as most of the Kimberley scenery, around 350 million years ago. Purnululu is the name given to the sandstone area of the Bungle Bungle Range by the Kija Aboriginal people. The name means sandstone. The range, lying fully within the park, has elevations as high as 578 metres above sea level. It is famous for the sandstone domes, unusual and visually striking with their striping in alternating orange and grey bands.

A scenic flight is the best way to gain a perspective of its massive size. In fact twice as many people see the massif by air than those who visit by road. WesternXposure adventurers have the chance to see the Bungle Bungles on quite a few of our tours.

The experience of a lifetime is available with an optional helicopter ride over, through, around and in between this unique 400 metre high Bungle-Bungle Range. We need all day here to explore this magical site known as Purnululu to the Aboriginal people. We will visit areas known as Cathederal and Picanniny Gorges and Echidna Chasm with its 150 metre sheer rock face.
