Karijini

karijini

Karijini is one of Australia's largest national parks, and arguably one of the most spectacular. In it's rugged red beauty, the park is famous for its sheer gorges, waterfalls and refreshing swimming holes.

Formerly known as Hamersley Range National Park, the Karijini is an Aboriginal name for the region used by two of the three local Aboriginal tribes that have inhabited the region for thousands of years.

Karijini is actually the second largest National Park in Western Australia and offers a wide variety of scenery; from rugged plateau and ridges to vast sunburned savannahs, clear rivers and deep, shadowy gorges.

The spectacular gorges have been carved by the waters of the Fortescue and other rivers. Sheer walls of rock are layered in colours from red to green and blue to pink in the changing sunlight.
